2️⃣0️⃣ Kelvin is the condensation point of hydrogen.Reaching this level in a plane is the ambition of CERN’s collaboration with Airbus UpNext. CERN has over 40 years of expertise in building world-record breaking superconducting cables for particle accelerators. Applied to aircraft distribution systems, superconductivity would drastically reduce their weight, increase their efficiency and open the way for the electrification of aircrafts.Last year, CERN and Airbus signed a partnership agreement to assess the use of superconducting technologies for future zero-emission planes. Over the course of the year, a demonstrator has been built. More to come next year! What are other fields of application of superconducting technology?🎅 Let us know in the comments!#innovation #hydrogen #decarbonation

#Question20 Superconductivity, the phenomenon where certain materials lose all electrical resistance below a critical temperature, offers a transformative toolkit with applications across diverse fields. Its impact is already significant, and the future holds even greater possibilities ,some applications can be as below MRI: High-field superconducting magnets enable detailed scans for diagnosis and treatment monitoring.Transportation :Superconducting levitation and propulsion for smoother, faster, and quieter train travel.P.s : would love to hear ,insights from others too 😊✨Happy to learn

George Washington University Researchers Michael Keidar, Li Lin, and Anmol Taploo presented an enhanced version of an arc electron source. It is designed for air ionization applications in a self-neutralizing air-breathing plasma thruster in the Journal of Electric Propulsion. The air-breathing plasma thruster ionizes and neutralizes the air particles at the same instant. Unlike the present state of ion-engine technology that requires a separate neutralizer to achieve thrust, this technology combines the process and eliminates the need for a neutralizer. This reduction in components not only reduces the payload for low orbit satellites but also simplifies the thruster's complexity thereby reducing costs, eliminating the need for propellant storage tanks, and increasing the service life of the satellite.Link to Publication: https://lnkd.in/eJJemBP6Learn More about the technology: https://lnkd.in/eVj2trQj#plasma #thruster #research #arcelectronic #satellite #gwu #gwtco #gwseas #gwengineeringMichael KeidarThe George Washington UniversityAnmol Taploo

Mainly during 2021 and 2022 and in the framework of the #CHIMERA (CHARM High-energy Ions for Micro Electronics Reliability Assurance) activity, with the financial and technical support from the European Space Agency - ESA, CERN developed its capacity for high-energy #heavyion testing of #electronics. This capacity is especially important for microelectronics components and assemblies that cannot be tested at #cyclotron facilities, due to the too shallow ion ranges and/or requirement of testing in vacuum. The results of this activity are summarized in our team's #RADECS2023 contribution, recently published as #OpenAccess in #IEEETNS: https://lnkd.in/e87Qi7YC. Since January 2023, the high-energy heavy ion beam and irradiation service development efforts at CERN are part of the EU-funded HEARTS project: https://hearts-project.eu/. Stay tunned for further results and achievements!
